History and Purpose History: In 1972 Dr. Hans Mark, Ames Research Center Director, convened an ad hoc committee of Asian-Americans, Hispanic-Americans, and women to study the status of minorities and women at Ames. The committee found significant disparities in all grades between minority and non-minority groups. Purpose: The compound purpose of the African American Advisory Group is to: project an image of organization and efficiency; to promote harmonious communications with Management and Human Resources, and to jointly provide creative solutions to problems causing numerical under representation of African Americans hired and promoted at Ames Research Center.
